Internal meeting with Alh Nuraddeen Muhammad Kabir Baraden Gusau, Uban ƙasar Tudun Wada Gusau

The Chairman of the Stakeholders Forum for the PathToPeace Project, Alh Nuraddeen Muhammad Kabir Baraden Gusau, Uban ƙasar Tudun Wada Gusau, hosted a meeting at his palace in Barakallahu Gusau to discuss the current state of the project. The forum comprises a diverse group of constituents, including representatives from the Board of Trustees IQRAA Foundation, Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria Army (1 Brigade Gusau), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Department of State Security Services, Ministry of Security and Home Affairs, Ministry of Justice, Council of Ulama, Christian Association of Nigeria, Hikimin Sami Naka, Sardaunan Damba, Mai Unguwar Bulunku, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), and the National Orientation Agency…

Additionally, academic institutions such as Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto, civil society organizations (CSOs) such as Voluntary Aid Initiative, Boys Scouts, Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) Forum, Zamfara Circle, and the Project Team were also represented.

However, the meeting focused on assessing the project’s successes and challenges while outlining future directions. A significant emphasis was placed on the livelihood grant of one million naira (N1,000,000.00) which be given to 15 identified vulnerable survivors of Violence and the step-down Alternative Dispute Resolution Mechanism (ADR-M) training for 100 selected members from community-based organizations, civil society organizations, and faith-based organizations. The discussion also included the peace action plan as a key activity marking the project’s conclusion.

Project Manager Umar Mahmud , Project Assistant Abdulhamid Imam Modibbo , and Monitoring and Evaluation Officer Fauzuddeen Mahmoud highlighted the importance of fairness, equity, and transparency in selecting beneficiaries. They noted that 5% of allocations would be specifically designated for persons with special needs as mandated by United Nations guidelines.

Furthermore, representatives from NYSC and NOA underscored the critical role of education particularly peace education and ongoing efforts to deradicalize adolescent boys and girls. They advocated for strategies to deter youth from engaging in organized crime through extracurricular activities and sensitization programs via radio broadcasts. These initiatives are seen as essential pathways to fostering peace, creating a harmonious society, and building lasting resilience within communities.
